Archbishop Tenison's
Archbishop Tenison's was possibly the first mixed school in the country, founded as it was by Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Tenison, in 1714 for the benefit of "ten poor boys and ten poor girls". Tenison's today is a vibrant, academic and pastoral school community with a vision to serve young people from across Croydon by giving them a secure understanding of themselves, the world in which they live and the other human beings alongside them.
Our school motto is “Tenaciter” – tenaciously. A key motif is “Academic Excellence in a Christian Community”. This is what we stand for and hope to see realised in our pupils and students.
