Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy Team is made up of the School Chaplain, the Vicar of St Matthew’s, a full-time Lay Chaplain, and the Assistant Lay Chaplain who works one day a week.

The vision for Chaplaincy at the school is (1) pastoral – contributing to the provision of pastoral care for both pupils and staff, (2) practical - giving timely support and guidance to all members of the school community and (3) spiritual – to develop and lead collective Christian worship within the school, at services and events across the academic year, to pray for the school community and to give spiritual help and advice when this is sought by individuals within it.

In addition to those who work in these formal capacities, the school also draws informally on clergy, ministers and youth ministers from several local churches to assist with the leading of assemblies, mentoring young people in school and other school activities as needed. A significant part of the role of our own staff is to give leadership and direction to this team, so as to keep the vision of chaplaincy alive and strong, and securely rooted in its educational purpose.
