Collective Worship

All pupils and students at Archbishop Tenison’s take part in various acts of worship throughout the school week.

These take the form of:

  • a weekly school Assembly in the Hall

  • a weekly year Assembly at St Matthew’s Church (or a Sixth Form Assembly in the Hall)

  • a daily act of Morning Prayer

  • prayer at the start of each lesson, which changes each half term.

  • an Assembly Follow Up Task in morning Tutor Time once a week.

In our hall assemblies we are currently looking at the life, miracles and teaching of Jesus as told in Luke’s gospel.

As part of our hall assemblies with years 7-10 there is also a time of sung worship, which you can experience in the video below.

As a Church of England school we undertake to give all pupils and students at Archbishop Tenison’s the opportunity to take part in an Anglican church service on each of the following occasions:

  • at the start of the school year in September

  • at Christmas (at the end of the Autumn Term)

  • at Easter (at the end of the Spring Term)

  • at the end of the school year in July

We are also committed to holding a Eucharist for each year group once in each academic year. These Eucharists follow the following pattern:

On Founder’s Day (usually the last Friday before the first May Bank Holiday) the whole school attends a special service at Croydon Minster to mark the anniversary of the foundation of the school by Archbishop Thomas Tenison and to look forward together to the next year in the life of the school.

Here’s what some of our staff and pupils say about collective worship at Archbishop Tension's -

“I look forward to church with my class—the interactive delivery of the parables and the story of Jesus sparks interest in me and my students, guiding our daily lives with His compassion and teaching.”

“It allows me to have a moment of pause and consideration before the start of the day, and recentre before teaching”
